I have to agree with Greg here.  Unless you need IFR, VOR is really a
waste.
Either consider a COM/GPS like the Garmin, Bendix/King or Apollo/UPS (none
is particularly cheap) or get a COM and a handheld mapping GPS like the
Lowrance 100 or Garmin GPS III.  I have flown for over 10 years with only
a
COM and Loran or GPS and have never missed the VOR.  A moving map is the
only way to fly.
