----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Leslie, If there is any big deal it is been well covered up. Gene in Ill said on a thread last year that there was a problem with landing in a cross wind with spring gear. But when I pushed for detail he could not come up with anything but I've seen picture. But had no pictures. After 5644F came into the family. I found a small article in Coupe Capers. Seems that the fellow we got her from broke attach bolts on landing. There is nothing in the logs about it. And as with Mary damage was very little. (On a hard surface runway) At a National a few years back while talking in a small group and looking at Alon etc. someone said that Uncle Fred was not to happy with spring gear worried of twisting of the spar. (or something to that effect) After fifteen years of being around the Ercoupes This is the only bad things I have heard or know about spring gear. I have never heard of a problem that Mooney had with the gear. And I would like to hear where Mary heard that Mooney had a problem from. There are a lot of people in this world that for what ever reason, said things that may or may not be true. (and Mary I am not talk about you) I like the spring gear. I like the way they feel on touch down. I like the feel on rough ground taxing. And most of all I like the low maintenance. And I see no difference in X-wind landing of them springing and causing you the crash and burn. Yours, Warren H
