I have one.  It reads in pounds, not inch-pounds.  The previous post about
the hanging weight is correct as to the meaning of e.g. 100 lbs tension.
Inches just doesn't enter into the equation.

BTW, it's for cables up to 1/8" and only reads up to 70 lbs.  How big are
these elevator cables?
