Dear Kim.
My Question here is : Why are you as the pilot in command giving up
responsibility ( and a very
important one ) to you brother in law ?
Preflight is Pilots duty. The NTSB is after YOU , not your brother in Law
if something goes wrong .
If I would be the guy who checked the oil , I would swear I tightened it
very secure.
But I myself forgot the Oil dip twice to tighten. I was distracted and the
visual check showed all o.k.
But I only THOUGHT I tightened but I DID NOT.
Like I said - TWICE! Now when doing the check before start engine and I
am not ABSOLUTELY SURE , I'll
go out side , open the cowl just to be sure all is good.
With my two Coupes and the 350 hours I am riding them I can not report a
loosened Oil cap.
I also think since these little continentals are so common and widely
used it would have become a
general AD years ago.
Just think about all these neglected Cessnas in Flying Clubs with an O-200
.
But I can be wrong - would not be the first time....
