I think the FAA is really smarting already. The news guys
have already started mentioning, via their aviation experts,
that ATC was pretty negligent in not scrambling investagatory
fighters sooner. They pointed out that Payne Stewart's ill-fated
Lear got USAF attention sooner. They also pointed out various
USAF fighter bases that the hijacked planes passed within
minutes of, WELL after the course diversions occurred.

One MSNBC analyst likened it to making a U-turn in the middle
of a down-town area with a traffic cop sitting on the street, and
him not doing anything.

So I think that the FAA is, when it comes time to assign blame
to those who could have stopped this thing, going to end up
with a bloody nose.
