Before you accept this as truth, verify it as I have not, but: Flying under IFR rules is distinct from flying in IFR conditions. Could be that the equipment you have today is sufficient. It depends partly on what route you file for and are granted. You need enough nav equipment to fly the plan, but don't need all the back ups and flight instruments. Of course you should think about what would happen if you are vectored through a cloud bank you'd ordinarily skirt around... For that matter, it may be that you don't even need an IFR rating, as long as you can follow the rules. The penalty for not following the rules is pretty severe right now. Hopefully we'll be able to fly under VFR rules by next weekend...
