To hell with certification. It's just the millstone that sinks your
company.

I am in the process of finishing the engineeringdrawings for the new
Coupe to be called the "Coupe Cruiser", to be buildfrom composites. This
plane will be a bit wider than th origional coupe, will use engines ranging
from 100hp to 150hp.

150hp!?! Where does the gas go? If you have to carry all that weight, what
happens
to useful load? Wing loading? Think again! Keep it simple, and light.
Maybe the
Franklin/PZL 125.

Will also include flaps

Why? Are we to cater to yet another generation which is unable either to
plan a descent or to stick their arms out into the slip-stream? Instead of
flaps, how about dive-brakes (ala Mooney)? Half of the Ercoupe's charm
is the extraordinary aileron feel provided by the full-span differential
ailerons.
Please don't screw it up by occupying half the span with useless flaps.

andeither the orgional Ercoupe type of canopy, or the Alon sliding type.

I vote for the 415-style. Especially if you plan on that extra power.
The Alon canopy is (IMHO) just a pain in the ass. Other than the
extra elbow-room, the extra drag and airspeed limitations make
it a liability. Unless you can develop one that isn't so draggy when
open and can tolerate Vne.

Good luck! I think the current FAA rules will keep you from certification.
For
one thing, you would hardly be able to lift the required seats (note that
the 172
is suffering due to the heavy seat structures mandated by the feds).

Don't feel alone...the venerable DC3 would probably be considered a
death-trap
by the bureaucrats if presented to them today.
