If a "new" Coupe were to be introduced, wouldn't it be wise to bring it
into the realm of the Modern world? I fly out of a 5000 msl field, and

when I have to cross over a pass that's 8000 ft high.

Granting all that, Larry.
I flew my `coupe from Roswell, New Mexico to Salem, Oregon, in 1994.
It has 85 hp. I managed the pass east of ROW, even though I had to go
to zero on the two hands of my altimeter! Yeah, I was solo, and could
get gas in Alamagordo on the other side.

I always wanted to Fly my wife and myself down to Lake Powell, but just
couldn't make it with the two of us and any food and gear.

Sad to say, you may well consider a Cessna 172/182. Not to put you down,
but Every Airplane has missions that it is better at than others. Cessna
got
to where they are in the market place for a reason (actually, several of
`em).

On top of that, it was 250 miles one way, which means I couldn't make it
round trip. With no fuel at the airport there, I would have to have made
a detour for fuel. More fuel? Wider Cockpit? More Power? All of the
above!!!

Please bear in mind that Every Airplane is a compromise. More HP = more
gas. To keep wt/balance within bounds when more gas is involved means
complicating the fuel system with multiple tanks and management problems.
Too many tails of selecting the wrong tank at an inopportune moment for my
liking.

Many things made the Coupe a wonderfully fun little plane. A few more
things would have made it a wonderfully fun, useful plane. 125 hp. That
would have made my Coupe great.

Finally, Larry (and all other fly persons on this esteamed list). the
Ercoupe is
good for what it is good for. The Bad News is that it is not good for
everything.
