I wouldn't become too complacent that you've found the real problem. The
RVP
(Reid Vapor Pressure) of good auto fuel isn't that much different than
avgas.
Rather than automatically blaming the auto-fuel, you should investigate
whether a fuel line is mis-routed or damaged. In particular, pay attention
to
the fuel lines' location relative to the exhaust manifold.

Furthermore, vapor-lock is one of those things, like carb-ice, that is 
difficult
to prove. It goes away. It's a default diagnosis. Do you *know* that it
wasn't
some sort of crud in your fuel system? Are you *sure* that the header tank
is clean and free of water and debris?

When's the last time the carb was re-built? Is it a Marvel carb with the 
two-piece
venturi? Some of those were problematic.

If you had 1000RPM, I doubt that you had 'vapor lock.' Vapor lock is just 
that...
a lock. No fuel is moving. And it is very rare in gravity-fed airplanes 
because,
well, bubbles bubble up and liquid flows down. Rather, it sounds a whole
lot
like somehow your high-speed jet got blocked.

Some mechanics are going to be all-too-willing to blame auto fuel.
Everyone's
entitled to his or her opinion, of course. The problem is, by blaming what

might
not be the problem, they're apt to stop looking for the real culprit,
which 
might
bite you again later on.

In sum, I think the incident bears closer examination.
