I was informed by my AP that temp should be AT LEAST 180 degrees in
order to boil water/corrosives out of the oil. In the summer I usually
run between 180 and 200. In my preveious post I mentioned duct taping
the bottom cowl opening during cold weather operations. I do not know
about the rest of the 'coupes, but it appears that the M10 had a plate
that could be installed to block off this opening. My M10 didn't come
with the plate, and it was easier to use the tape for the few times I
fly in cold weather than to build a new. My Tri-Pacer has a similar
plate (provided by Piper) that goes over bottom cowl opening to reduce
oil cooling in temps below 40 degrees.
