Unfortunantly, Bill, only votes count. If the government said "You have
to
buy this
gizzie to put on your car. We noted with extream concern the media story
of the
persons who lost their family members. Said members drove off the road
into a
river. Such cases throughout the years warrent buying this gizzie AT YOUR
EXPENSE (of course, it comes on all NEW cars). Caught driving on any
federally-funded highway (like the Interstate ones) and you are fined ten
grand.
Of course, the benefit of the gizzie is that we can find your family
members
before some fisherman snags their antenna." Can you smell the tar getting
hot?
Which is my point. Us airplane pilots are chaff in the political
winds. There
are not enough of us (and we are too old!) to call out the cops if we got
together. And we're rich, anyway. Until flying is on a par with boats,
dirt bikes,
and all other motor sports, it will remain that way.
A step in that direction was made in the late 1930's with the design of
the
Ercoupe.
