After replacing the rubber cushions every annual for three years (and
adding the extra metal spacers under a 337) I gave up and put in the
belville springs in place of the rubber cushions (type certificated
under the Alon so only a 337 required).  The tail has stayed at 75" ever
since.  It was a bit expensive for the parts but I am very glad I made
the change.
