Chad - I would definitely finish your training in a conventional 3 conrtol airplane. I know little about the Katana, so con't advise specifically about it. But, if you've found a good coupe at a good price, there is no reason to pass it up now. Just take your flight test for your license in another airplane. If your CFI won't work with you in 2 airplanes at the same time, find another CFI. I've been one for 30+ years, and frequently did that when I was active as an instructor. You need the flexibility to fly a regular airplane when you need to, that's why I'd advise against stopping the regular airplane now, and training and testing only in a Coupe. I am a student pilot training in a Kitana who has fallen in love with the Ercoupe and plan to make it my bird to fly, but my question is: Do I learn to fly in the Kitana or should I look to purchase the Ercoupe now and learn to fly in it? Any thoughts would be appreciated. 'Couper to be Chad Surmick, Santa Rosa, CA ! !
