Steve-- Here are the step-by-step instructions for replacing the window welting in an Ercoupe: 1. Remove the top window (if you have one) and the two side windows. 2. Remove your seat bottom cushion. 3. Unlace the seat-back upholstery from the seat-back frame. 4. Remove the side panel upholstery. 5. Remove the seat-pan by pulling the pins from the piano hinges. 6. Remove the seat-back frame. 7. Remove the #4 sheet-metal screws that hold the metal side-panels in place. There are about 8 or so in each side. 8. Pull out the old window welting and remove any residue glue from the window channels with MEK in a well ventilated area. 9. Find the center of the new window welting pieces and, starting at the top center of the window frame, work the new welting into the channels with a putty knife, gluing as you go, all the way down to the bottom. 10. Reinstall all of the above pieces in the reverse of the order that they were removed.
The entire job should take about 3 hours if everything goes right. Good luck. (By the way, Skyport buys the window-welts from Univair. You can too.) Syd Cohen NC94196
