Thanks to Kim, I now know that this M10 has a slightly different fuel system from the "typical" coupe. His fuel system diagram shows a simpler arrangement, while the diagram in my book shows a more complicated system with the main tanks vented to the header. The Mooney book shows a more detailed internal view of the header, with two risers. One is for the vent from the mains, the other is the overflow back to the mains. The input line (from the pump) is shown as entering the bottom of the tank, with no riser.
If this is true, it explains why the fuel can slowly drain from the tank, through the pump, to the mains, even if the header is only half-full or less. I wish this line had a riser, too.
