You are missing the point by a country mile.
AN ERCOUPE IS A CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT, NOT A HOMEBUILT\EXPERIMENTAL.
It therefore has to use certified parts to be LEGALLY airworthy.
As such, a certified A&P mechanic has to sign it off every year -
not just some intelligent person with caution and understanding!

The issue never was that homebuilt parts are inferior....
THEY JUST CAN BE VERY ILLEGAL ON A CERTIFIED AIRPLANE.
End of story. Opinions have no place in this legal matter.
Any and all arguments over this are a waste of time.
It's like defending running red lights and stop signs because it 
saves gas. Breaking the law is breaking the law.
It has NOTHING to do with what I think or your opinion either!
THE FAA IS THE ENFORCER OF REGULATIONS. 
Violate the regs at your own risk\peril.
