This thread started as a emergency procedure response....

The question was, since you have no flaps or rudder how could you safely
land a coupe if you were high but not high enough to go around....

I responded with how the coupe could be "S" 'ed to produce the same effect
as a slip to lose a lot of altitude without picking up a lot of
energy(speed), and how the book sez.. to apply the break BEFORE
you land to shorten the landing roll.

>From this we got into a lot of other things...... I think some thought I
was describing "normal" practice not a emergency off airport landing...

Any way I have a D I find no problem, but you can get in trouble with
it...
I learned a bit backward I guess, I started flying off logging roads in a
172....

******Owners Thoughts

I find landing the 415-D works best for me if I operate it as I would a
172
on a soft or short runway.
I slow fly it and carry about 1200 rpm and 70 "over the fence", once over
the fence I reduce power to idle and normally hit the control stops and
the
runway at the same time, I lower the nose and roll out with controls
neutral.

This is "normal"....It doesn't happen that way very often, but a number of
people ask me if all my landings are that smooth.... "Well you bet they
are"......

*******End Owners Ramblings

I have never flown any other Coupe but my own, she is special, being a D
with a full gyro panel and a
O-200 your mileage may very....
