I would also agree with Dave it sounds like Vapor Lock

I had a 172 that was doing the same thing....

I checked everything... turned out to be vapor lock and it only happened
with mogas (I run Texaco Midgrade not that that matters)  The fix turned
out
to be insulating the gas line that was exposed to heat under the cowling.
I flew that aircraft for over 500 hours after and never had the problem.
