For those of you with the slide down windows a simple way to regain your
lost 5 mph with the windows down is to use the center "sun shield". The
problem is that all that air going up out of the cockpit destroys lift.
With the sun shield in place I have flown in the rain with both windows
down and not gotten wet.

As for the rudder issue I covered that before but I can tell you again,
learn the proper technique of flying without rudder pedals and you can get
a hell of a steep decent rate, and if you need to land in anything higher
than a 45 KT direct crosswind you may be in trouble without the pedals but
what the heck you are still gonna be able to fly when all the Cessna's are
sitting on the ground and their pilots telling hanger stories. I can only
speak from experience and don't have the benefit of lots of hanger stories
telling me what the coupe won't do. So not knowing any better I find it
quite easy to do the impossible. I do find however that being able to slip
on final does help me when landing in formation since the turns going from
down wind to base or base to final requires that I carry more speed than
the lead since I am on the outside of the turn. It helps me to shed that
speed as we roll out of each turn and to keep from blowing past the lead
(real bad form).
