For telling aluminum from stainless steel - excuse me please as I'm no
expert, but isn't stainless steel non-magnetic, just like aluminum?
That's
how I remember it, anyway.

Rick, I didn't answer that part of your question because I don't know the
definitive way to tell aluminum and stainless steel apart.

Rick.  It should be obvious as the original aluminum skin is one piece
from the firewall back to the windshield while the SS skin is just wide
enough to fit between the rivets from the firewall back to the first
station.  Of course a magnet will tell you quickly also.
