What a great idea, Jon! I'm going to make one and try it out. I noticed
the
boss on the carb bowl too, and today when I pulled the plug I did it with
the tail lowered and then opened the header tank valve, which let some gas
run through it as well.

Does anyone have an opinion on products that are supposed to remove water
in
the fuel? Are these additives safe, assuming you are STC for auto fuel
(and
the fuel system can strand auto additives), or is this a fundamentally bad
idea (additives).

    Artie.

To make sure you get all the water out of your fuel tanks you may
want to make up a useful tool that I have used many times. It consists
of some small,[1/4"] aluminum tubing and some clear plastic[vinyl]
tubing. Cut two pieces of aluminum tubing about two feet long and bend
them to fit into the inner corners of the nose and wing tanks. Join them
with about four feet of the clear tubing. File the tubing so that the
end will sit flat aginst the bottom of the tank. One end for the wing
tank and the other end for the nose tank. Now you can syphon fuel from
the tanks down to a clean container. Move the end of the tubing around
in the lowest parts of the tanks and you'll be suprised how much water,
bugs, paint chips and other debris you vacuum up! This simple tool is
easy to make and no coupe should be without one. Also, pulling the drain
out of the bottom of the carb may not get all the water out. If I
remember correctly, The boss that the drain plug screws into, is raised
up about 1/8 or 3/16" above the bottom of the carb bowl bottom. Whoever
designed something like this wasn't thinking what he was doing. It is
very important to keep all water out of the carb! It doesn't burn worth
a damn. Quite often just draining fuel, even lots of it, will not get
the water out of the low places. Hope this helps.
