Ken C. ================================================================= Hi Ken: I will answer your question first and then make my excuses. I have the El Reno filter on my engine and their recommendation was to do whatever you wanted. The reason I eliminated the screen was that it serves no further purpose after the installation of the full flow filter, and it will have to be removed and cleaned every time the oil is changed. All of the oil that passes through the pump goes first to the screen housing and oil temperature sensor then through the spin-on filter and on to the engine. The thing that could happen if you leave the screen in the system would be to clog up and restrict the oil flow to the engine. The surface area of the screen is very small compared to the full flow spin-on filter. Now for my excuses. I have looked high and low for that damn screen and can not find it. I thought I knew right where it was, but no such luck. I will keep looking and when I find it I will send it along. ....................... Ken, if I may make a suggestion. I would strongly advise you to install the El Reno spin-on filter. I know that the screen has been used since the dark ages and what was good enough for grandpa is good for me. However why not take advantage of modern technology and use a real filter instead of an old piece of door screen?
