Not so, grasshopper! The oil goes from the screen, on the right hand side, across the accessory case to the pad where your filter is, and then down the left hand oil gallery. At the front of the case it crosses to the right hand side, back through the right gallery to the oil pressure relief valve at the rear right of the case. (-8 engines are a little different in the acc'y case, but the general flow is the same). Also, the screen is designed to collapse and allow oil to bypass it if it becomes severely clogged.
