Believe it. As with all "sliding" bearings, there is a certain amount of 
clearance built in.  In this case I think it's around 0.015".  When you
tug 
on the prop, the crank slides forward until the thrust bearing contacts
the 
face of the crank.  When the engine's running, there's oil under pressure
in 
there and it keeps the surfaces from touching.  Actually, the face of the 
crank is pulled forward toward the case by the prop, and that film of oil
is 
pushing your plane through the air.

So don't  start trying to see how loud of a thunk you can make with it...
