John;   I agree with you in theory. However, as I indicated a couple weeks

ago on this list, many years ago my father got a good deal on a J-4 Cub 
because the engine would quit on take off. It turned out that someone had 
replaced the fuel line from the gascolator, mounted on the firewall, to
the 
fuel injection unit with a fuel line that was too large in diameter. This,

coupled with the fact that the gascolator was vented under the top of the 
cowl caused the engine to quit whenever you made a rapid rotation on take 
off. Reducing the size of the line and plugging the gascolator vent solved

the problem.
I was thinking along the same line as Warren. I.e. adding a small boost
pump 
to be used on take off would fix the problem. Or, the system back to the 
original Coupe design which would put the gascolator back at the
carburetor.
To my knowledge, only the Alon Aircoupe has had a history of engine
failures 
on take off.
