These are my own personal feelings. Your opinions may vary. In the "old days" we used to be able to reuse crankshafts (and cams) without grinding at overhaul. We didn't have no steenkin' oil filters. There's nothing wrong with having one, and it probably does help, but if you're not going to cut it open and inspect it, you're probably better off without one. If you fly less than about 100 hours a year, you ought to change your oil in about 25 hours regardless of whether or not you've got a filter.
So my non-committal response, a filter is probably a good thing, but not if you aren't going to cut it open and only if you fly alot do you get extended oil changes. As far as the cooler goes, (I'm assuming it's an add on) The cowls we fly with were designed to cool the engine without an oil cooler. If you're oil stays cool enough, there's nothing to gain, unless you put on the cooler than go on a cowl drag cleanup binge (too much paperwork...) If you have an oil temp problem and you don't live near Phoenix, it's probably a baffeling problem (pun intended) and should be dealt with that way.
