Ben I don't think you could have that much play from the aileron brgs. Could be but I would suspect it is the heim joints. If this is true they can be replaced without removing anything except the wing root fairings. It isn't easy but can be done. You have to use a lot of helpers like magnets on flex cables and what I call magic fingers. These are the flex cables with moveable jaws for holding the nuts and bolts. They are available at most auto parts houses. Only a buck or two each. I just replaced the ailerons brgs. on my 415-c. They were half frozen but had no side play. I had the wings off so can't say if they could be done without removing the wing. The bell crank assy. with the brgs. in it is 2 7/8" deep. This may tell you if you have enough room. The plane we changed all the heim joints on was an Alon, but I think everything is the same as my 415C.
