I spoke with John Askeland of Franklin Aircraft Engines about the long ago proposed STC for the Coupe of their 120 HP (@2800rpm) engine. The current poop is that he is bringing in a coupe from Missouri to do the STC with. What he told me about the engine is that it will mate up to the existing engine mount. The do have to do an analysis to make sure it is strong enough. He feels it will also not require a new cowl. The weight is about 25 lbs more than an O-200. TBO is 1500 hrs but will be much less costly o overhaul. The cylinders have a steel sleeve that is replaced ($70). The cost of a new engine is $7900 without accessories. No mags for an O-200 won't work. All said and done it should be less than a good overhaul on your present engine and you get an extra 30-35 Hp in the process. Sounds interesting,,,,, I'll keep you informed about the progress, he anticipates the STC will take about 6-9 months to do, said he has had a good relationship with the Feds.
