Does that include messages at level mail.info and higher, or is it only mail.debug?
That file is generated by the following syslog.conf setting:
mail.debug /var/log/mail.debug
which I newly added. Afterwards I restarted syslogd.
Did you definitely set DEBUG_LOGIN=2 in the authdaemonrc file, and also in the imapd configuration file?
In authdaemonrc, yes. I also restarted the authdaemon server several times now. The imap config file doesn't contain this option, also in no comment.
Are you sure you don't have authdaemonrc and/or imapd config files lying around from your old install, and when configuring the new install you put them somewhere else?
This is a brand new machine which has never seen any Courier software before. Also I didn't copy in any old config files from my current production machine, I just changed the installed ones with my environment settings, like MySQL user/pass etc.
