I need help desperately!
I'm trying to install courier-0.36.1.tar.gz building rpm of course as a
user "eli" not root this is my .rpmmacros

%_tmppath /home/eli/rpm/tmp
%_topdir /home/eli/rpm
%buildroot /home/eli/rpm/buidroot

rpm -ta courier-0.36.1.tar.gz
error: failed build dependencies:
        rpm >= 4.0.2 is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1
        openssl   is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1
        openssl-perl   is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1
        openssl-devel   is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1
        gnupg >= 1.0.5 is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1

I'm running redhat 6.1.
I upgrade rpm from 3.0.3 to rpm 3.0.6.6x and the only message I received
when I upgrade was "could not delete /usr/lib/rpm --> directory not
empty".

This rpm should handle also v4, isn't it? But it doesn't! the same
message appear.
Then I try to upgrade to rpm version 4 but I have a lot of depencies
problem:

searching around I learn that I have to install BerkeleyDB and gcc
compiler and popt but which one???...
I first try db3-3.1.17-4.i386.rpm needs GLIBC_2.1.3 and 2.2

Then I try with glibc-2.1.3-23 but it gives me a dependecies problem
with rpm version 3.0.6.

(loop :-()

Then I try glibc-2.2.3-2 it gives a lot of dependices error!!! (I
can't list too long)

I need a walkthrough!!!

Regards
Eli
