This is the worse advse I have ever heard given. What is wrong with Redhat 6.1? I should not have to be running the latest version in order to be able to compile a damn program!
Better advise would be to tell him look on freshmeat for what he needs. And then upgrade it. What should someone go through the pain of reinstalling a damn OS to run a program! This is the power of linux. And why microsoft is awful when it comes to this. * Sam Varshavchik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [011226 04:23]: > Jmade writes: > > >I need help desperately! > >I'm trying to install courier-0.36.1.tar.gz building rpm of course as a > >user "eli" not root this is my .rpmmacros > > > >%_tmppath /home/eli/rpm/tmp > >%_topdir /home/eli/rpm > >%buildroot /home/eli/rpm/buidroot > > > >rpm -ta courier-0.36.1.tar.gz > >error: failed build dependencies: > > rpm >= 4.0.2 is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1 > > openssl is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1 > > openssl-perl is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1 > > openssl-devel is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1 > > gnupg >= 1.0.5 is needed by courier-0.36.1-1.6.1 > > > >I'm running redhat 6.1. > > There's your problem.
