I've seen a couple problems with various IMAP clients, and I'm wondering
if other people have seen these problems and whether or not there are
solutions for any of them. If the problems are with the clients, and not
just an oversight on my part, I'll send off bug reports to the authors
instead (well, except for Outlook...).

---- Outlook Express 5/6 ----------------

Outlook frequently (but inconsistently) complains that "The server has
unexpectedly closed the connection" when switching folders. It doesn't
seem to affect the actual operation of Outlook, as everything seems to
work, but having that dialog box pop every time one switches folders is
pretty irritating (and disconcerting for those unaccustomed to MS
glitches).

Nothing shows up in the Courier logs when this happens.

Surely other people have seen this problem. Have have you handled it?

---- Mutt 1.3.24 ----------------------

First, Mutt doesn't seem to be able to handle subdirectories properly.
Using the configuration option:

  set imap_delim_chars="/."

doesn't seem to help, and causes Mutt to get confused about what the
INBOX is. If anyone has Mutt handling subdirectories properly, please
send a message. I'd like to compare configuration options.

Second, Mutt has problems with defining the spoolfile to be the IMAP
server. I'd like to start up Mutt to talk directly to my primary IMAP
server, but I'm not sure how to go about setting the options. Currently
I'm using:

  set spoolfile=~/mail/INBOX
  set folder='imaps://orion/'

but this requires manually switching to the IMAP folder. If I set
spoolfile='imaps://orion/', Mutt gets confused about which folder to
open.

If anyone has Mutt working properly, would you mind posting the relevant
.muttrc setting?

---- Mozilla 0.9.7 ---------------------

Mozilla doesn't seem to close IMAP folders automatically, nor can I find
any way of closing them manually. This is a problem when I limit the
number of open folders on the server to a low number, because then Mozilla
quickly starts complaining that it could not open a connection to the
server.

Does anyone know of a way to either (1) tell Mozilla to close folders
automatically to make room for new ones, or (2) close a folder manually?
The only thing I've seen work so far is completely shutting down Mozilla.

-----------------------------------------

Thanks in advance for any information. I'll send a summary of any
personal replies back to the list (senders will remain anonymous).

m.
