Outlook 2000 is definitely doing the IDLE, however when the delay hits other clients see it also - although the only other client I've confirmed so far is Netscape 7, which seems to *not* do IDLE.On Sat, 2003-02-15 at 21:27, Jerry Amundson wrote:I'm not getting very far with this one. The NFS client does not run imapd, therefore nothing will resister with fam, therefore it should not be an NFS issue.OK. That's what I was trying to figure out when I asked if /home was mounted on NFS: just wanted to make sure locking wasn't an issue. So, limiting myself to just the NFS/Courier server, I've tried several
things tonite, but am unable to even reproduce the delays. My connections are the only imap things running, though. I'll see what it
looks like Monday when the normal amount of imap stuff is going on...
What client was having the problems? I got complaints of clients
hanging from Outlook users, but Evolution was working fine at the time. It may be a client-specific issue (or maybe Evo just isn't using IDLE...
I don't know)
I'm also suspecting an NIS variable in all this... For some reason the imapd process occasionally has no login in the process table:
jerry 27764 17752 0 15:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
support 29262 17752 0 15:31 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
pgagnon 29420 17752 0 15:32 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
272 29648 17752 0 15:33 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
imenard 29944 17752 0 15:36 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
betha 30433 17752 0 15:39 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
272 30858 17752 0 15:42 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/courier/bin/imapd Maildir
Or maybe it's something with ps on RedHat 7.3, who knows...
I have yet to troubleshoot this in a "scientific" way - I can't enable IMAP_ENHANCEDIDLE during the day as the delay is annoying, and I couldn't reproduce it consistently during off hours.
I suspect something with this server is not getting along between the NIS(pam?), FAM, and the imapd processes.
I leave Friday for a vacation, so I'll pick it up again in March....
Thanks,
jerry
