This is obviously a RAV Antivirus issue, and I am trying to work with their tech support as well, but I'm wondering if anyone on this list seen this behavior before and can shed some light on it. The core issue, as we see it, is the issuing of that 500 REJECT message. Our actions file for RAV is completely devoid of any reject commands.
It may not be a RAV issue, as long as you positively ascertain that you're sending a 500 back to the sender.
There are a small number of extremely broken mail relays that simply vomit all over themselves if they receive a 5xx error to a DATA. Instead of bouncing the message they treat it as a temporary error, and retry the message again.
The only solution here is to blacklist the sender's IP address completely, until they get their act together.
