People can currently access w/o authentication problems to their e-mail using POP/IMAP clients (like Eudora). Not yet configured SSL.
I wish to provide them also a web interface and I've choosed SquirrelMail 1.4.xxx (yes, I know, there is also courier webmail, but SM is just a little bit more graphically pleaseant ;-) )
The web server is (obviously) Apache 1.3.27 with mod_auth_pam.
The problem is that I'm not able to authenticate via web interface! It seems to be a courier misconfiguration but I'm not able to find where the problem is!

I could be wrong of course (computers being so willing to bite you in the butt and all), but it doesn't sound like a Courier problem to me. Sounds like SM needs to be configured differently.

It's the one that is having problems authenticating, right? Your clients can authenticate over IMAP via other clients according to your statement above. That's all SM does unless I'm sadly mistaken, so it's probably not talking to the server properly, or not talking to the right server maybe... or something like that.

I'd recheck the SM config first, personally. Maybe do a tcp dump if necessary to check that it is talking to the server like it should be.
