The point is not that it cannot be automated, its for ignorant autoreponders
that would reply back to any request, therefore adding users to a list
without their knowledge and getting the list manager in hot water.  Albeit
the user and autoresponder should not be so stupid, but it happens.

overly complicated is reading 5 lines and typing 'yes' ?
I have never had a user complain about the difficulty of getting on a list.

Its not up to me to accept the patch, but I can see why you want it.  In my
opinion its not necessary, but if you insist your users are this ignorant I
cannot argue.
