Sorry I realise now how vague my first post was which I put down to complete frustration from having spent a whole weekend try to get this to work :o)

Note: I mangled the email addresses in the portions of logs posted to prevent spam. Where you see *at* it is actually an @ in the log

Yes port 25 is open on the firewall and yes I get some messages in the syslog. An example of a failure would be (the last three lines are all on one line in the logs)

Jan 18 19:10:32 compost courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:217.12.10.37]
Jan 18 19:10:33 compost courieresmtpd:error,relay=::ffff:217.12.10.37,
from=<doozertheflib*at*yahoo.co.uk>, to=<doozer*at*crazysquirrel.com>: 513 Relaying denied.

my locals file (/etc/courier/locals) contains

localhost
crazysquirrel.com
.crazysquirrel.com
xfly.co.uk
.xfly.co.uk

I belive this file should only need localhost, crazysquirrel.com and xfly.co.uk but the pre-dotted versions are there just in case that made it work.

I have tried a re-boot but that didn't change anything.

The bounced email contains:

<doozer*at*crazysquirrel.com>:
81.5.183.106 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 513 Relaying denied.
Giving up on 81.5.183.106.

Thanks

Graham

The only thing that seems to be broken in fact is recieving mail from the outside world for my domains.

What does the bounce say when you send an email from an outside account to your local account? Does courier log anything to syslog during that event? Do you have a firewall blocking port 25?

More data!!! :-)
