esmtpacceptmailfor.dat

is the binary database file. You can easily confirm it's contents by using

strings esmtpdacceptmailfor.dat

BTW...do you have your loopback address in your smtpaccess file and have you ran makesmtpaccess?

good luck!

I have a directory

/etc/courier/esmtpacceptmailfor.dir
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 18 16:41 esmtpacceptmailfor.dir

that contains a single file I called domains which contains the following

localhost
crazysquirrel.com
.crazysquirrel.com
xfly.co.uk
.xfly.co.uk

I have run the "makeacceptmailfor" script which ran without complaint but I think I have spotted why it isn't working. Although the script hasn't complained it also has created the file

/etc/courier/esmtpacceptmailfor.dat

which I would have expected (from the man page and from what you say).

Any ideas?

my locals file (/etc/courier/locals) contains

localhost

xfly.co.uk

What does the /etc/courier/esmtpacceptmailfor.dir directory contain? Once it contains the proper domains, you have to run makeacceptmailfor to build the .dat file. I think you said you did that already in your first mail, but just want to make sure it has the right data.
