Well, technically, calling someone an asshole in private email doesn't constitute slander -- slander must be public and is spoken, not written.
But, to the facts of it, yes, I reacted harshly to a post that seemed to me to be a belittling screed.
I also apologized immediately, and asked Gerardo to ratchet the tone down as well and consider the intent of what I and others were writing instead of nitpicking whether the RFCs defined a type of MX record called a "broken" MX or not... but was already plonked so it was discarded.
