For those of us who are used to "RFC-'should'-friendly" MTA's and MLM's, it
seems odd -- after all, five days or more of retries, right?

But in the past few weeks, I've been plagued by the following:
- a mass-mailer provided as a service for non-profits that is configured to
retry transmission 4 times within 2 hours and abort the transmission
- the Yahoo Groups policy of treating a single 5xx as reason to disable delivery
of all groups to any given address, even if it's a spam/virus block or other
content-related 5xx
