You mean, "authdaemond", which is not what you've been told to look at. 
  "authd" is a program which is unrelated to courier.  It provides the 
ident protocol, which is very little used.  You can disable it in your 
courier configuration, but it may be useful in the future to learn what 
ident is, when it's used, and how to recognize the problems that may 
arise when your firewall DROPs ident connections.
