No, this call fixed the problem.

But everthing get's better at the moment, I found out today...


It seems that this error is no longer there in combination of courier-0.59.0 
and my current Gentoo systems. Either they changed something in the version 
check or Sam's own libtool-version got updated now.

So we are all really happy and I'll get a revised ebuild version without all 
this autoconf-stuff in Portage soon. Just the gdbmobj-subdirectory needs to 
be rebuild beacuse of the lately submitted patch fixing --as-needed. I think 
this change will be in the next courier release and we can drop this in the 
future.

I'm really happy to see this problem gone, it makes building courier in Gentoo 
much easier and fixes the issue of this thread the other way round. But I 
still feel that shipping the autotools-environment in a non-working state is 
not very lucky, so the m4-files should be included anyway for future 
releases.
