What confused me, and still does, is this comment in the default webmlmrc:# All directories in LISTS must be owned by the same uid and gid... # # Example: LISTS=/home/lists/users-list:/home/lists/admin-listThis made me believe that all mailing lists should be in the home dir of a single system user, owned by that system user.
Correct. If you need to have lists owned by a different system userid, you'll need another instance of webmlmd running, with its own configuration file.
work, so how can they all be owned by the uid and gid? I don't see how I could ever have more than one list.
More than one instance of webmlmd.
sent requesting subscription. However, the web page offered by webmlm contains no template I can find for authoring a message to go with the request. The message generated says only "Please subscribe me". Is there a way to provide a message body for subscription requests entered via webmlm?
No. A subscription request is just a request. The web page for this mailing list, for example, has no separate template either: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/courier-users
Email to sanghas-help still gets forwarded to the list owner instead of getting the help auto-reply message. Is something required to configure this?
That usually indicates that .courier files are not set up correctly.
However, I'm still getting permissions errors wrt commands.dat:
That indicates that the mailing list directory's uid/gid is wrong, and does not match the account's.
