I haven't had a reason to do this yet, as I have yet to see the problem 
reappear.

My biggest change as far as I can tell is that I have upgraded to gcc 4.4.3 and 
as I'm running gentoo I have rebuild the entire system as there is some change 
between 4.3.4 and 4.4.3 which specifically impacts x86_64 machines.

As far as I know Berndt is also running Gentoo and this might solve his 
problem, if he dares :-)
