Hi, Aaron-

Yeah, I agree with you that there are some big differences between all
these varied examples (Russia, Indonesia, The Balkkans, Iraq) .
Definitely the US appears to be still standing with the idea that it is
still less trouble to its domination in the region in the long run, to
just let Indonesia remain semi- pasted together.
However, the imperialist countries are often playing both options at the
same time. Smile with the arm around the shoulders, while carrying
a concealed knife ready to plunge into the 'ally' at the first
convenient moment. Remember the OK to Saddam Hussein?

Oftentimes, greed gets ahead of common sense for the imperialists. I
do believe that the Australian government did want to grab Timor.
It wasn't just the Left protests in Australia pushing them into doing
what they supposedly didn't want to do. Oil was involved.

The US was relunctant to give the OK to Australia. Because direct
greed for a grab wasn't a factor for the US. The US was able to see
a little better, the inherent risk of a spun-off East Timor to its
policy of trying to hold a unified, subordinate Indonesia together.

It appears that the imperialist bloc is in a constant habit of just
muddling its way into a mess when it comes to managing its affairs in
this part of The Pacific. But then again, it's hard to coordinate
when so many bloodsuckers are involved..... Spanish, Portuguese,
Australians, Japanese, the US, the British, the Dutch! Have we left
anybody out?

Best regards to you, also..... Tony
