Well, Nkrumah was a MArxist of sorts. His work "Consciencism" is well worth a
look, s it is, as I recall, an attmept to give African and other 3d world
colonies and ex colonies a  line of analysis and argument that was Marxists in
essence while adapted to a form that could perhaps avoid the punishments meted
out to overt socialist politics in the early '60s.
You can find a lot about Nkrumah through the works of the scholar Kofi Hajjor,
who is now at UC Santa Barbara, I think.. Hajjor worked wiht Nkrumah and has a
reliable critical eye to the man's pluses and minuses.
