The answer to falling wages is unionizing across borders. We have made a
step with the disconnection of the AFL-CIO to state department schemes that
were just fronts for the CIA. The other answer is strong organzing against
goboliization.
The anwer to disease is preventative health care available to every one.
Pete Wilson (our xenophobic former governor) made this situation worse by
pushing the anti-immigrant proposition 187. He also made conitnually cuts
to Medi-Cal for the poor.
We are again attempting to get Canadian style health care in California with
SB480 but it is with stalling by Davis. The Democrats are NOT our friends.
They are in the hip pocket of the health industry. We will not do well
against illness like AIDS as long as right wing religious groups fight birth
control (a condom and a spermicide are a good anti-AIDS weapon.) These
right wing groups also fight the education and liberation of women, and sex
education for kids. I keep giving the same speech to folks who are
resistant. Yes, we want kids to wait to have sex, it is a large
responsibility after all. But, we don't want them to DIE is they decide to
anyway. I lost a son to AIDS. I kept condoms in my bathroom when my kids
were teenagers. Yes, kids I want you to wait, but if you don't, use these
EVERY TIME. Every parent must have access to condoms, show their kids how to
use them, and keep them available. Children must be educated about their
bodies and encouraged to have high self esteem.
