In response to the 12:34 PM 18/10/00 -0500, message from Carrol Cox
1. I pull the plug: Message to Mark :please unsub me from crashlist ASAP
2. To Carrol: I am not anti-Marxist .All I wanted to say is that given the
imminence of a crash in the global ecosystem, economic and political
theories which do not take that threat as a basis are irrelevant to current
circumstances are pointless.
The immediate issue, with all due respect is NOT "the achievement of the
social relations within which it will be possible for humanity to debate
and decide this issue." ( i.e. the "issue of bringing the use of the system
to a level that remains within what does not collapse the whole thing.").
It is to find ways to help a sufficient number of people to perceive and
understand what is happening with sufficient detail and precision, so that
they can take steps likely to avoid or minimize the effects of the crash.
By the way, I know that there is much more than a theory of distribution in
the philosophy of Marx and in that of Engels. I am not a non-marxist at
all. Yet, I maintain that discussing about the respective merits of
philosophies hatched under circumstances that prevailed 150 to 200 years
ago can be comparable to the subject of the discussion among the orthodox
bishops and other church dignitaries in Constantinople in 1453.
Population growth is NOT the only factor of current crisis...even though it
definitely is one of them.
I never said anything like what Carrol attributes to me Marxists have as
much the right to exist as anyone else, provided they open their mind and
eyes to the problematique. proposing that what I argue is "that all
decisions re resources and environment be made under the auspices of
capitalism." I.E. (that I) "argue either for human extinction or for a
world-nazism which would make extinction a pleasant alternative." is a
gross and insulting distortion of (1) what I said and (2) what I mean.
Fed up with this argumentative sterile list. Take me out of it. Fast, please
Yves Bajard
