It is helpful in undermining the U.S. claim to superior democracy, as is sort of the
theme of this thread. It is a glaring example of a defect in U.S. democracy, franchise
, etc.
It is very important to emphasize the career of J. Edgar Hoover, as a stock in trade
of U.S. selfaggrandizing/anti-communist propaganda is the "secret police" forces in
"dictatorships" , the "absence" of which in the U.S. is thereby more evidence of U.S.
superior democracy.
It would be pretty difficult to overdescribe an event like the Kennedy assassination
which is perhaps the prime publically undeniable example of transition of president
without an election or impeachment.

I don't see how it is helpful to any understanding of US politics to cast the Kennedy
assassination as a coup or to speculate on how far the secret police and whoever
presumably runs them would favor Johnson over Kennedy, etc. To over- describe such an
event, including events like the vote corruption in Florida, tends to set lots of folks
sniffing down the trail of red herrings while the prey luxuriates in its lair.
