#cidocCRM SIG Members,
I am well aware that I am not yet a member of the SIG. However I wanted to
submit this recommendation in a timely manner so it might be considered this
week during the upcoming SIG business meeting in associate with discussion
about the new website. Please forgive the presumed membership association as
my intent is timely introduction of ideas to help promote the #cidocCRM and
its community.
Proposal: Social Media Engagement
Summary: To be most effective as advocates for the use of the #cidocCRM, the
SIG should adopt a more proactive and responsive outreach program taking
advantage of the forthcoming new website by coordinating the site launch
with an enhanced social media presence. At this point in the #cidocCRM
community evolution, the SIG will benefit from consciously "thinking more
like an Open Source software community" to reach beyond its research and
academic roots.
To this end, I recommend a simple program to energize the #cidocCRM social
media program consisting primarily of a reenergized and focused use of
Twitter in coordination with, and supporting, the forthcoming new
cidoc-crm.org website. The plan is as follows:
1. Form a Social Media Team of at least three SIG member volunteers to
perform and coordinate social media communications on a regular basis. By
sharing responsibility for social communication, the load per person is
reduced while broadening the "eyes on the prize" of promoting and supporting
the #cidocCRM and its community.
2. The team will coordinate its activity with the New Website team.
THE NEXT FEW ITEMS RELATE TO A REINVIGORATED TWITTER PRESENCE
3. The current @CRMSIG Twitter account should be "retired" and its 100
followers actively encouraged to follow our new Twitter presence at
@cidocCRM. If we were to effectively promote the current @CRMSIG account, we
would very likely experience a "be careful what you wish for situation" with
the account followed and unfollowed to distraction as community
conversations and our 'channel news stream' are hijacked by folks interested
in and promoting the "other CRM" (Customer Relationship Management). The
recommended (stubbed-in and ready-to-go) @cidocCRM account name follows the
hashtag naming and format recommendation below.
4. We can easily retweet the 18 tweets of the current @CRMSIG account. While
it is possible to refollow the over 700 accounts being followed by @CRMSIG,
it is worth considering what the utility of such a heavy following is for
the new engagement strategy.
5. The @cidocCRM Twitter account will function under this simple operational
protocol:
a. SIG NEWS/ANNOUNCEMENTS: SIG leadership or designated
spokesfolk will directly tweet or provide information/instruction to the
Social Media team to tweet such primary source material.
b. FAVORITE AND RETWEET: We will favorite and retweet
anything (reasonable and non-spam) tweeted to our @cidocCRM account or any
variation of our #cidocCRM hashtags.
c. TFTF & FF: We will do a "TFTF" (Thanks For The Follow) for
each new follower making an effort to personalize the thank you by visiting
the follower's account before thanking. At the discretion of the TFTFer, we
may follow back. We will also do #FF (Follow Friday) tweets to promote the
visibility of our SIG members and collaborators whose social media presence
is consistent with and supports the #cidocCRM.
d. #HASHTAGS: To minimize conflicts and interaction with the
"other CRM" we will adopt the specific spelling and case formatting of
#cidocCRM and #cidocCRMsuffix. The suffixed form will be useful for within
SIG communication (#cidocCRMmtg, #cidocCRMadmin, etc.) and for self-managing
community/interest organizing (#cidocCRMgraph, #cidocCRMdev, #cidocCRMtei,
etc.)
e. LISTS: In coordination with the website, we will maintain
Twitter lists, at a minimum of Current SIG Twitter Editors, SIG Members
(who Tweet), #cidocCRM Collections, #cidocCRM Projects, #cidocCRM Resources,
etc..
f. USE OF BUFFER: The Social Media team will use the Buffer
service to maintain a regular and effective schedule of social media
communication. The goal is to avoid the "feast or famine" tendency of
tweeting in real time. With a small number of SIG members sharing access to
a single account, Buffering is both necessary and effective. We won't "step
on each others toes" by tweeting in real time, and keeping the buffer filled
will not be a burden as the task is shared.
OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS/ACCOUNTS
6. For at least the next year, our Social Media Engagement strategy will be
focused on consistent and coordinated communication published via the
forthcoming new cidoc-crm.org website and via the @cidocCRM Twitter account.
7. As the #cidocCRM community experiences growth in use within software
design and development projects, it will be advisable to launch a
StackOverflow account/section to provide community-based FAQ support for
modeling and software design questions, etc. This will only be done if
"pulled" onto the activity agenda by community request.
8. Adding additional Social Media accounts/channels, such as Instagram or
Quora, will be considered on a case-by-case basis once the team feels we
have Twitter working well. However it is my belief that the website and an
effective Twitter presence will meet our needs.
Respectfully Submitted for SIG New Business Consideration.
Happy-Healthy Vibes,
